The Health Benefits of Sushi

It’s no secret that fish like salmon and tuna are good for you. Fish is high in protein and contains omega-3 fatty acids, which is essential to brain and heart health. But what about sushi? There’s a lot of elements that factor into making sushi healthy or unhealthy from the ingredients used, where the fish is sourced, the sauce, and more. Here at Harney Sushi, we pride ourselves on offering delicious sushi that is sustainable, unique, and fresh. 

In an effort to be more sustainable and help the environment, Harney Sushi’s fish is sustainably sourced. We also try to source our ingredients locally and choose organic when available. As well, we use alternatives like black cod for eel because eel is on the brink of extinction. Harney Sushi only uses fish that has a thriving population to avoid overfishing and causing a drastic change in the ecosystem. As for fish farming, we only support and work with organizations that work with the ecosystem instead of against it. This ensures that the species of fish are able to thrive in said environment without being put at risk. Harney Sushi’s goal is to bring our customers the highest quality, sustainably sourced fish.

 

Our sustainably sourced black cod and Pacific bigeye tuna are only two of the many fish that offers amazing health benefits. Black cod is a great source of vitamin B-12, which supports bone, hair, nail, and skin health. Bigeye tuna is low in saturated fats and sodium, but high in B6 and B12 vitamins. Specifically, Pacific bigeye tuna from Hawaii where we source our fish is a great source of iodine and magnesium. Magnesium helps regulate the thyroid gland which plays a huge part in hormone control. Other fish that offer similar health benefits include salmon, sea bass, and shrimp. 

Harney Sushi offers a variety of rolls to cater to those who have dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free or vegetarian. While all of our white rice is gluten-free, we also offer rolls like our Protein Roll that has no rice, is wrapped with cucumber, and comes with fresh salmon and tuna. As the name suggests, this roll is high in protein and low in carbohydrates. One of our delicious vegetarian options includes the Spicy Juan Roll with avocado, sauteed broccoli, zucchini, and sweet potatoes. Broccoli and sweet potatoes are high in vitamin C, plus they both reduce the risk of cancer. These rolls are as healthy as they come and taste amazing!
